July 21, 2010 - Hong Kong is set to issue banknotes with brlle and embossed lines for the visually impred in a move that follows China's lead. This announcement was made on Tuesday by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority.
In recent years, China has already started issuing yuan banknotes with brlle marks, catering to those who are visually challenged. Hong Kong will now embark upon a similar initiative, planning to introduce these inclusive financial instruments over the next two years.
The new Hong Kong notes will feature brlle at the bottom left corner of each note and embossed lines that correspond with their respective values; this innovation will encompass both the HK$1,000 and HK$500 denominations, which are scheduled to come into circulation in late 2010 and early 2011 respectively. The designs for the remning three denominations - HK$100, HK$50, and HK$20 - will be revealed halfway through 2011.
The three banks authorized to issue Hong Kong's banknotes – Bank of China, HSBC, and Standard Chartered – have committed to releasing their own versions of the updated notes.
In addition to these measures med at enhancing accessibility for the visually impred in financial transactions, a range of upcoming events focusing on various aspects of business operations in Asia will offer valuable insights for companies navigating across regions such as China, Vietnam, and Chile.
